Zeno Colò: The Legend of Skiing
The first Italian to win an Olympic Gold Medal in alpine skiing, and one of the greatest skiers of all time.

Born in1920 in Tuscany, rose from humble beginnings to revolutionize alpine skiing. His early years involved using skiing both for transportation and work, shaping his endurance and skill.
At 15, Colò joined the Italian national team, but World War II interrupted his career as he served in the Alpine troops and endured imprisonment. Undeterred, he returned to skiing in 1947, setting a record in the flying kilometer at 160 km/h with an innovative "semi-tuck" stance, a precursor to modern ski techniques.
Colò's aerodynamic "tuck" position transformed skiing, influencing generations.
In 1950, he dominated the World Championships in Aspen, winning gold in downhill and giant slalom and a silver in slalom. Two years later, he claimed Italy’s first Olympic gold in alpine skiing at the Oslo Winter Games. However, a controversy over endorsing ski equipment led to his disqualification in 1954, ending his international career prematurely.
